Introducing Swallow Gateway

Swallow Gateway is a first-of-a-kind software tool that uses web-based technology to help clinicians and researchers explore the mechanisms involved in oropharyngeal swallowing.

In current clinical practice, patients reporting oropharyngeal dysphagia are primarily investigated using radiology imaging that is assessed subjectively, and there is limited data supporting many current treatments. Pharyngeal High-Resolution Manometry-Impedance (P-HRM-I) is changing this paradigm by potentially offering a more robust, physiologically based method for investigating swallowing function.

Researchers can use Swallow Gateway to derive comprehensive datasets of outcome measures and to create a new pathway for translating knowledge into clinical practice. Those in clinical practice can work more quickly with biomechanically based data and communicate their findings effectively with colleagues. Together as a community, we can build the knowledge needed to further advance the clinical understanding and management of dysphagia.

If you are new to P-HRM-I, the audio overview below (20 min) will help set the scene for your learning journey.
